The show follows the misadventures of lawyer Oliver Wendell Douglas (Eddie Albert) and his glamorous Hungarian wife Lisa (Eva Gabor) as they move to the fictional Hooterville and attempt to adjust to rural life. Oliver buys the run-down farm of his dreams and soon discovers the many eccentricities of rural living, including dealing with crops, livestock, and peculiar townspeople.
The show also features a cast of memorable characters, including Eb, the dim-witted farmhand; Hank Kimball, the bumbling county agent; and Sam Drucker, the local general store owner. Despite Oliver's best efforts to modernize the farm, he often finds himself in comical situations and at odds with the simple country ways.
Green Acres was praised for its humor, subversive themes, and sharp satire of the American Dream. The show also had a catchy theme song, which became a hit in its own right. Although it was cancelled in 1971, it remains a cult classic and is often cited as a favorite among fans of classic sitcoms.
