The Toxic Avenger: The Musical takes a satirical and irreverent approach to the B-movie genre. As Melvin transforms into The Toxic Avenger, he gains an intimidatingly muscular physique with bright green skin and a distinctive horn protruding from his forehead. With his newfound powers, Toxie takes on the corrupt Mayor and her cronies, defeating them one by one in increasingly messy and comical ways.
As well as its political satire, The Toxic Avenger: The Musical is known for its humorous and often raunchy musical numbers. The show incorporates a range of musical styles, including rock, pop, and even a few ballads. Highlights include the upbeat opening number "Who Will Save New Jersey?", the hilarious duet "Hot Toxic Love", and the rousing finale "Evil is Going On".
In addition to Toxie and the Mayor, the show features a range of colorful supporting characters.
