Johnny Handsome is a 1989 crime thriller film directed by Walter Hill and starring Mickey Rourke, Ellen Barkin, and Morgan Freeman. The main character, Johnny Handsome (Rourke), is a career criminal who was born with a severe facial deformity. He is constantly ridiculed and abused by his peers, which leads him down the path of crime.
Johnny eventually teams up with a group of outlaws led by the charismatic Rafe Garrett (Freeman). They pull off a successful heist, but during their escape, Rafe betrays Johnny and shoots him in the back. Johnny is caught and sentenced to prison, where he meets a sympathetic doctor named Steven Fisher (Forrest Whitaker).
Dr. Fisher offers to give Johnny a new face through plastic surgery. The surgery is successful, and Johnny is paroled from prison. He tries to start a new life, getting a job and reconnecting with his old flame, Donna (Barkin).
However, Johnny is secretly planning his revenge on Rafe, who killed his mentor and sent him to prison. With the help of his new friend, Sunny (Elizabeth McGovern), Johnny sets out to take down Rafe and his gang.
The film explores themes of identity, revenge, and redemption. It was based on the novel The Three Worlds of Johnny Handsome by John Godey and received generally positive reviews.
