Comedy,Drama  France

Going Places is a 2019 French-American comedy-drama film directed and co-written by John Turturro. It is a loose remake of the 1974 French film Les Valseuses, which was directed by Bertrand Blier.

The film follows the misadventures of two delinquent friends, Jesus Quintana (John Turturro) and Petey (Bobby Cannavale). They cross paths with another thief, Marie-Ange (Audrey Tautou), and convince her to join them as they travel across the country, committing crimes and outraging respectable society.

Marie-Ange is a hairdresser who is tired of her mundane life and is drawn to the danger and excitement of Jesus and Petey. She falls in love with both men and becomes their confidante and cook. The trio enjoys a hedonistic lifestyle, stealing cars, robbing banks, and sleeping with whomever they desire.

Along the way, the trio encounters a series of quirky characters, including a blindfolded woman (Susan Sarandon) and a pregnant woman (Sônia Braga). They also have encounters with the police and other criminals, but always manage to escape thanks to their quick wit and cunning.

As the three outlaws journey deeper into the American heartland, they begin to question the meaning of their existence and the morality of their actions. Ultimately, they must confront the consequences of their choices, including the impact on the people they have hurt.

Going Places has been praised for its strong performances, dark humor, and exploration of unconventional relationships. It has also been criticized for its portrayal of violence and its explicit sexual content. Despite mixed reviews, the film has gained a cult following among fans of underground cinema.
