Waterfront was a drama series produced by Ziv Television Programs Inc. and aired from October 1954 to May 1955 on CBS. The show was set in the fictional port city of Harbor City and followed the daily activities of the tugboat crew that navigated the harbor's treacherous waters.
Preston Foster starred as John Herrick, the dependable and experienced captain of the tugboat, "Cheryl Ann". Herrick was respected by the other harbor workers for his knowledge of the waters and his unwavering commitment to safety. Joining him onboard was his first mate, Mike Damico (played by Scott Brady), a tough, street-smart Sailor.
The series dealt with a range of issues that the crew faced, including rescuing ships in distress, dealing with bureaucratic red tape, combating criminal elements on the docks, and navigating personal relationships. Herrick's love interest was local news reporter Ann Williams (played by Mary Costa).
Waterfront was praised for its realistic portrayal of maritime life, and the show's technical advisors consisted of actual tugboat captains to ensure accuracy. The series was canceled after one season due to low ratings but remains a cult classic among fans of maritime dramas.
