The TV series, named "Unidentified: Inside America's UFO Investigation," is a six-part docuseries that premiered on the History channel in 2019. The show investigates the mystery of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and attempts to explain the phenomenon through interviews with military personnel, politicians, scientists, and eyewitnesses across the United States.
The series was inspired by the bombshell story reported by The New York Times in 2017 that revealed the existence of a secret Pentagon program investigating unidentified flying objects. The program, called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), reportedly ran from 2007 until its funding was discontinued in 2012.
"Unidentified" is hosted by Luis Elizondo, a former military intelligence official who headed the AATIP program. The series follows Elizondo's personal quest to uncover the truth behind UFO sightings and encounters reported all over the world. He interviews other former military officials who claim to have witnessed UFO sightings and cover-ups, as well as scientists who believe that extraterrestrial life could exist.
The series explores a range of UFO-related topics, including alleged alien abductions, the famous Roswell incident, and the government's response to UFO sightings. It also features interviews with ordinary people who claim to have seen UFOs and experienced unexplained phenomena in their lives.
"Unidentified" has been praised for its objective approach to the UFO phenomenon by investigating the subject with a scientific lens and avoiding sensationalism. The show has been successful and its producers have announced that a second season is in the works.
