The Magician was created by Glen A. Larson, who also produced other popular TV shows such as Battlestar Galactica and Knight Rider. In addition to Bill Bixby, the show also starred Keene Curtis as Tony's butler Max, who often helped him with his crime-solving endeavors. The show featured a variety of special effects and illusions, which were created by James R. Stein and Jack G. Taylor.
Each episode of The Magician saw Tony Blake using his expertise in illusions and misdirection to solve crimes that had stumped the police and other investigators. Some of the cases that he tackled included art thefts, kidnappings, and murder mysteries. Along the way, he often encountered beautiful women who either assisted him in his investigations or served as potential romantic interests.
Despite its innovative premise and high production values, The Magician only lasted for one season. However, it remains a cult favorite among fans of 1970s television and magic enthusiasts alike. The show is also notable for featuring guest appearances by notable actors such as Anne Francis, Lloyd Bochner, and John Saxon.
