Simon & Simon revolved around the adventures of the titular brothers, A.J. (Parker) and Rick (McRaney), who operated a San Diego-based detective agency called Simon & Simon Investigations. The series featured a mix of lighthearted comedy, action, and drama as the brothers tackled various cases ranging from missing persons to murder investigations.
A.J. was the more buttoned-up of the two, with a background in law and a penchant for order and rules. Rick, on the other hand, was the more rough-and-tumble of the pair, with a Vietnam War veteran's experience and a rebellious streak that sometimes put him at odds with his brother.
The Simon brothers were often assisted by an eclectic cast of recurring characters that included their spunky secretary, a scrappy streetwise informant, and a charming police lieutenant, among others. Over the course of the series, the brothers also had several romantic interests and occasionally came into conflict with their estranged father, who was also a private detective.
Simon & Simon was known for its catchy theme song, which was composed by Barry De Vorzon and Michael Towers and featured a distinctive harmonica riff. The show was popular with audiences and ran for eight seasons, with a total of 156 episodes. It was later followed by several TV movies and a short-lived spin-off series called Simon.
