Paradise Bay focused on the lives of the wealthy Porter family who owned a resort hotel on a fictional island in the Caribbean. The family patriarch, John Porter (played by John Larkin), was a powerful and controlling figure who clashed with his four adult children: oldest son Michael (played by Ron Harper), a lawyer; daughter Jennifer (played by Celeste Holm), a socialite; middle son David (played by Joel Crothers), a doctor; and youngest daughter Elizabeth (played by Mara Corday), a aspiring actress.
Other notable characters included the hotel's manager, Bill Prentiss (played by John Beradino), who had a complicated romantic history with Jennifer Porter; and Tony Vincent (played by Richard Evans), a young man who worked at the hotel and became involved with Elizabeth.
The show featured a lush tropical setting, glamorous fashion, and romantic storylines. However, it struggled to find an audience and was cancelled after less than a year on the air. Some episodes of Paradise Bay are believed to be lost, as many NBC daytime shows from this era were not preserved.
