The show follows the adventures of Tim O'Hara, a young reporter who discovers a crashed spaceship in the desert. He finds a Martian inside and helps him to repair his ship so he can return home. The Martian, who takes on the persona of Tim's Uncle Martin, possesses a variety of powers, including the ability to become invisible, read minds, and levitate objects with his "Martin-Operations" or "Martian-Powers."

Throughout the show, Martin and Tim find themselves in various wacky situations, often involving Martin's attempts to blend in with human society and hide his true identity. Some of the recurring characters include Tim's nosy landlady, Mrs. Brown, who suspects there is something strange about Uncle Martin, and Tim's girlfriend, Angela, who begins to suspect that Tim is keeping secrets from her.

Despite the constant threat of being discovered by the authorities, Martin and Tim develop a close relationship and work together to solve problems and help people. However, the ultimate goal remains for Martin to repair his spaceship and return home to Mars.
