Saiy?ki, or Monkey, follows the adventures of the monkey king Sun Wukong, who is given a task by the Buddhist monk Tripitaka to journey to India and retrieve holy scriptures. Along the way, Sun Wukong is joined by other companions, including the pig-faced Zhu Bajie and the dragon-horse Sandy.
The show was known for its spectacular fight scenes and special effects, which were cutting-edge for the time. It also featured a mix of drama, comedy, and action, appealing to audiences of all ages.
The cast of Saiy?ki included Masaaki Sakai as Sun Wukong, Toshiyuki Nishida as Zhu Bajie, Shiro Kishibe as Tripitaka, and Masako Natsume as the White Dragon Horse. The show's theme song, "Monkey Magic," performed by Godiego, became a hit in Japan and around the world.
Saiy?ki was a massive success in Japan, and it was later dubbed into English and broadcast in the UK and other countries under the title Monkey. It has since become a cult classic and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Japanese TV dramas of all time.
