The Land of the Lost was actually a remake of an earlier series with the same name that aired in the 1970s. The newer version featured improved special effects and more modern storylines.
The Porters, after getting sucked into the alternative world, find themselves stranded and must find a way to get home. Along the way, they encounter various dangers including frequent earthquakes, treacherous terrain, and dangerous creatures such as T-Rexes and giant insects.
Tasha, the extra smart dinosaur, becomes the Porters' ally and helps them navigate the Land of the Lost. Stink, the monkey man, is mischievous but ultimately good-hearted and helps the Porters in their adventures. Christa, another human who has lived in the Land of the Lost since childhood, initially mistrusts the Porters but eventually becomes their friend.
The Sleestaks are the main antagonists of the series, an advanced race of lizard-like creatures who live in a city built beneath the Land of the Lost. They have a complex social hierarchy and are ruled by an all-powerful High Priest.
Despite being a children's show, Land of the Lost often dealt with mature themes such as loss, isolation, and death. The show ran for three seasons before being canceled in 1992.
