Land of the Giants follows the adventures of the crew and passengers of the sub-orbital spacecraft called the Spindrift, which veers off course on its flight from New York to London and crashes onto a mysterious planet where everything is twelve times larger than its counterpart on Earth. The crew and passengers must adapt to their new environment, evading the huge inhabitants and dealing with the unusual phenomena they encounter on this planet.
The Spindrift crew includes Captain Steve Burton (Gary Conway), co-pilot Dan Erickson (Don Marshall), glamorous stewardess Betty Hamilton (Heather Young), kid genius Barry (Stefan Arngrim), and engineer Mark Wilson (Don Matheson). They are joined by Valerie Scott (Deanna Lund), a wealthy passenger who becomes stranded with them after boarding the Spindrift to escape an unhappy marriage.
The giant inhabitants of the planet are often hostile towards the human crew and see them as invaders. They are ruled by a mysterious and unseen government known as the Supreme Circle. The giant society is depicted as highly advanced with technology far beyond that of Earth's, but they also have their own problems and internal conflicts.
The show featured various futuristic and elaborate sets and special effects for its time, and its episodes often tackled themes such as social and political issues, while also exploring the human condition in extreme and unfamiliar environments. Despite its popularity, the show was ultimately cancelled due to its high production costs and declining ratings.
