Fish aired on ABC from 1977-1978. The show followed Detective Phil Fish as he retired from the NYPD and moved to a quiet suburban community with his wife Bernice, who was a social worker. The couple adjusted to their new surroundings while also trying to maintain a sense of purpose in their lives.
Fish dealt with a range of social issues, such as drug addiction, domestic violence, and mental health. Unlike its parent show, Barney Miller, Fish had a more dramatic tone and less emphasis on humor.
Despite receiving critical acclaim, Fish struggled to find an audience and was canceled after only two seasons. However, the character of Detective Phil Fish would return to Barney Miller for occasional guest appearances.
