Anne Shirley is an orphan who is mistakenly sent to the Cuthberts to be adopted as a boy to help with their farm work. Despite the initial confusion, the Cuthberts decide to keep her and raise her as their own. However, Anne's strong personality and imaginative nature often clash with the practical and reserved nature of her adoptive mother, Marilla.
Anne quickly befriends the neighbor girl, Diana, and becomes the target of bullying by a classmate, Gilbert Blythe. Despite her boldness and outspoken personality, Anne struggles with feelings of inadequacy and a desire for acceptance. She also harbors a secret past trauma that resurfaces when she least expects it.
Throughout the series, Anne develops strong relationships with the people around her, including her teacher, Miss Stacy, who encourages her love of learning and literature. Anne's love for adventure and mischief often lead to amusing and heartwarming situations, but also get her into trouble more than once.
