The miniseries follows the life of Harriet Tubman, who was born into slavery and escaped to freedom in the North. Despite her own freedom, she risked her life to return to the South to help other enslaved Africans escape. Tubman led over 300 slaves to freedom through the Underground Railroad, a secret network of safe houses and routes. She also became involved in abolitionist movements and worked as a nurse and spy for the Union Army during the Civil War.
A Woman Called Moses explores the challenges and dangers that Tubman faced as a black woman and a freedom fighter. The series also portrays the brutality of slavery and the political tensions surrounding the issue of abolition in the United States during the 19th century. The production received critical acclaim and is widely regarded as a landmark in African American television history.
