Mary Beth is a dedicated marine biologist who is passionate about her work and her research. She spends most of her time studying dolphins and their behavior in their natural habitat. One day, while out on one of her research missions, a mischievous dog named Zeus stows aboard her boat. Mary Beth is initially annoyed by Zeus's presence, but she soon realizes that he has a unique and special bond with one of the dolphins she has been studying, a captive dolphin named Roxanne.
As Mary Beth observes Zeus and Roxanne's relationship, she becomes intrigued and decides to study it further. She discovers that Zeus is able to communicate with Roxanne in ways that no human could ever understand.
