Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie takes place after the conclusion of the Battle City Tournament, where Yugi and his friends have emerged victorious. However, their moment of triumph is short-lived as they discover that an ancient evil has awakened deep beneath the sands of Egypt.
The evil is Anubis, an ancient Egyptian sorcerer who was defeated centuries ago by Yugi's alter ego - the Pharaoh. Anubis has returned for revenge and is determined to destroy Yugi and take over the world.
To achieve his goal, Anubis wields the power of the Eighth Millennium Item, a powerful artifact that gives him the ability to control the shadow realm and manipulate reality itself. Yugi, together with his friends Joey, Tristan, Tea, and Kaiba, must once again fight against the forces of darkness to save the world from destruction.
