You're Next is a horror thriller film that was released in 2011. The film opens with the Davison family coming together to celebrate their parents' 35th wedding anniversary at their remote country house. The family is made up of siblings Crispian, Drake, Felix, Aimee, and their partners, along with their parents.
During the course of the night, the family is suddenly attacked by a group of masked intruders armed with crossbows, machetes, and axes. The family tries to flee the house but soon realizes that they are being picked off one by one. As they attempt to survive the night, they discover that one of them has a hidden talent for fighting back.
The character in question is Erin, Crispian's girlfriend. Erin is introduced as a smart and resourceful woman who initially holds her own against the attackers. However, it soon becomes clear that she is not just a survivor but also a skilled fighter. She is revealed to have grown up on a survivalist compound, where she was trained in self-defense and weapons handling.
As the family realizes that they are not the only ones being hunted by the masked attackers, Erin takes on a larger role in defending them. She improvises weapons and booby-traps, often using her knowledge of the house to gain the upper hand. In the film's climactic scene, Erin confronts the masked leader and reveals her true fighting prowess, taking down the final attacker with a variety of weapons.
In addition to its horror and action elements, You're Next also features dark humor and a subversion of horror tropes. The film was directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, and has been noted for its strong female lead and clever twists.
