Young and Dangerous is a 1996 Hong Kong crime film directed by Andrew Lau and starring Ekin Cheng, Jordan Chan, and Francis Ng. The film is based on the popular Hong Kong comic book series "Teddy Boy" by Cow Man and centers around the triad gangs in Hong Kong.
In the film, Nam (Ekin Cheng) is a young triad member who opens a bar in the Wanchai district of Hong Kong. He quickly rises through the ranks of the Hung Hing triad gang and becomes a trusted lieutenant of the boss, Chiang. Nam's best friend, Chicken (Jordan Chan), is sent to Taiwan to work for the San Luen gang leader, Lui, and there he falls in love with Lui's mistress, Ting Yiu.
When Chicken returns to Hong Kong, he finds Nam in a power struggle with rival gang leader Fai Fat. Meanwhile, Lui arrives in Hong Kong demanding that Hung Hing sell him a half-interest in their new Macau casino. When Chiang is hesitant to agree, Lui threatens war, and Chicken is forced to choose sides.
As the tensions between the rival gangs escalate, Ting Yiu sets up a meeting to negotiate a peace treaty. However, as the different factions come together, loyalties are tested, and betrayals are revealed, leading to an explosive and violent showdown.
Young and Dangerous was a box office success, grossing over HK$28 million in Hong Kong alone. The film spawned a series of sequels, spin-offs, and imitators, and is widely regarded as one of the most successful and influential films in the Hong Kong crime genre.
