Stacy and Lydia are determined to have the most amazing bat mitzvahs ever, and they've been planning every detail for years. But when they start middle school, their dreams start to unravel. Stacy becomes obsessed with impressing a popular boy named Blake, while Lydia feels left out and resentful.
As they navigate the tricky social dynamics of middle school, Stacy and Lydia's friendship is put to the test. They bicker and fight, but they also help each other through embarrassing moments and tough times with their families.
Meanwhile, their families are dealing with their own dramas. Stacy's overbearing mother insists on throwing her daughter the most expensive and elaborate bat mitzvah ever, while Lydia's parents are struggling to pay for even a basic celebration.
