Yellowbeard

Comedy,Adventure  United Kingdom

Yellowbeard is a British comedy film released in 1983, directed by Mel Damski and co-written by Monty Python regular Graham Chapman. The film is a pirate comedy and stars a wealth of comedic talent including Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, John Cleese, Cheech Marin, Peter Cook and Madeline Kahn.

The film follows the infamous pirate Yellowbeard (Graham Chapman) who is imprisoned for tax evasion. In an attempt to steal his treasure, the British government conspire with him to help him escape from prison. Yellowbeard sets out with his loyal crew to retrieve his hidden treasure, but he is pursued by the Royal Navy led by Captain Hughes (Peter Boyle). Along the way, Yellowbeard meets an array of eccentric characters including a lisping demigod named Harvey Manfredjensenden, played by Martin Hewitt.

The film is known for its irreverent humor, with frequent sexual innuendo and wordplay throughout. Yellowbeard's crew is a motley bunch, including the likes of Frog (Michael Hordern), a bumbling physician who is fond of leeches, and Moon (Marty Feldman), a cross-dressing pirate with a penchant for stealing melons.

Despite its impressive cast, the film received mixed reviews upon release and was not a commercial success. However, it has since gained a cult following for its offbeat humor and imaginative plot. For fans of British comedy and pirate movies, Yellowbeard offers a deliriously absurd experience.
