Yara

Drama,Crime  Italy

Yara Gambirasio, a 13-year-old girl, disappears on November 26, 2010, after leaving the gym in Brembate di Sopra, a small town near Bergamo, Italy. Her parents report her missing, and an extensive search is conducted to find her. After three months, Yara’s body is found in a field near Chignolo d’Isola, a few kilometers away from Brembate. Her body is badly decomposed, making it hard to determine the cause of death.

Prosecutor Letizia Ruggeri leads the investigation into Yara’s murder. She is determined to solve the case and bring the culprit to justice. The only evidence she has is a small amount of DNA found on Yara’s clothes, but there is no database to compare it to. She works tirelessly to collect DNA samples from everyone in the town, but still can’t find a match.

The investigation becomes a media sensation, and speculations and rumors spread like wildfire. The pressure on Ruggeri to solve the case increases, and she is constantly belittled by her male colleagues. She ignores the criticism and focuses on the investigation.

Ruggeri finally gets a break in the case when a DNA match is found. The DNA belongs to Massimo Giuseppe Bossetti, a truck driver who lives in Mapello, a town near Brembate. Ruggeri works to build a case against Bossetti, but he denies any involvement in the murder.

The trial begins in 2015 and lasts for over two years. The case against Bossetti is circumstantial, but the evidence is strong enough to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. On July 1, 2017, Bossetti is found guilty of Yara’s murder and sentenced to life in prison.
