Xanadu is a musical romantic fantasy film released in 1980. The movie revolves around a struggling artist named Sonny Malone who dreams of creating something amazing but is unable to find inspiration. He soon meets a beautiful muse named Kira who inspires him to pursue his artistic talents.
Kira's magic soon begins to influence Sonny's older friend Danny McGuire, a former big band musician who is now the owner of a dilapidated auditorium. Kira suggests to Sonny and Danny that they should transform the auditorium into a lavish rollerskating club, which they then begin to work on with passion and enthusiasm.
As the club begins to take shape, Sonny and Kira fall in love, but their happiness is threatened by Kira's immortal nature. She belongs to a group of nine goddesses from Greek mythology who can only visit Earth for a brief period. Kira's time is running out, and she must return to her celestial home, leaving Sonny heartbroken.
However, Sonny and Danny's love for the club and their shared passion for the art of rollerskating create a magical aura around the club. With Kira's encouragement, they put on a spectacular opening performance, combining dance, music, and rollerskating, which attracts a huge crowd.
As the night goes on, Kira reappears as a human, fulfilling her promise to Sonny that they will be together forever. The movie ends with Sonny, Kira, and Danny enjoying the success of the club and roller skating into the sunset.
