WUSA

Drama  United States of America

WUSA is a 1970 drama film directed by Stuart Rosenberg and starring Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, and Anthony Perkins. The film is set in New Orleans and centers around the character of Rheinhardt, a drifter who finds work as an announcer at the radio station WUSA.

Despite his initial detachment and cynicism, Rheinhardt becomes increasingly disturbed by the extreme right-wing views propagated by WUSA and its owner, an enigmatic millionaire named Farley. He begins to question his role in spreading propaganda and becomes romantically involved with Geraldine, a former prostitute who shares his disillusionment.

Meanwhile, Rainey, a young idealist and neighbor of Rheinhardt, becomes increasingly obsessed with exposing WUSA's hidden agenda and enlists Rheinhardt's help in doing so. As tensions escalate both inside and outside the radio station, Rheinhardt finds himself forced to take a stand and grapple with his own moral principles.

The film deals with themes of morality, deception, and the corrosive nature of propaganda. It received mixed reviews upon its release but has since gained a cult following for its prescient depiction of the rise of right-wing media and its impact on American politics.
