Wonderwall is a 1968 film directed by Joe Massot and starring Jane Birkin, Jack MacGowran, and Irene Handl. The film tells the story of eccentric professor Collins (played by MacGowran), who lives completely isolated and alone in his chaotic apartment in London. When the beautiful model Penny (Birkin) moves in next to him, he becomes obsessed with her and begins spying on her through holes in her walls and ceiling.
As he becomes increasingly fascinated with Penny, Collins loses himself in daydreams and delusions. He imagines himself rescuing her from various dangers and scenarios, often accompanied by surreal visuals and musical interludes. At one point, he even travels to India in search of her, only to find that she has moved on with her life.
Throughout the film, Collins grapples with his own inner demons, including his fear of aging and his own mortality. As he grows more and more obsessed with Penny, he begins to spiral out of control, leading to a shocking and unexpected climax.
Wonderwall is known for its psychedelic visuals and experimental soundtrack, featuring music by George Harrison of The Beatles. The film received mixed reviews upon its release but has since gained a cult following for its unique style and quirky charm.
