In Wonder Woman 1984, the film takes place in the height of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), aka Wonder Woman, is working at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. where she meets Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig), a gemologist specializing in ancient artifacts. Their paths cross when they both investigate a stolen mysterious antique object, which was believed to have the power to grant wishes.

As tensions rise between the US and the Soviet Union, Wonder Woman must navigate the political landscape, as well as face off against Barbara, who has transformed into the formidable villain known as the Cheetah. The two engage in an epic battle as Diana grapples with the true cost of her wishes, and the greater good that comes with her responsibilities as a superhero.
