Wonder Woman is a superhero film released in 2017 and directed by Patty Jenkins. The movie features Gal Gadot in the lead role of Wonder Woman, an Amazonian warrior princess named Diana, who has been living on the remote island of Themyscira, hidden from the rest of the world.
In the midst of the First World War, American pilot Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine) crashes on the island and reveals to Diana the ongoing conflict and devastation in the outside world. In an effort to put an end to the human conflict and save innocent lives, Diana decides to leave her home and accompany Steve to the frontlines.
As they journey to the war zone, Diana discovers her true abilities and powers as a demigod, including her superhuman strength, agility, and ability to communicate with animals. Along the way, she assembles a team of allies to help combat the evil forces, including Ludendorff (Danny Huston), a powerful military leader who is determined to unleash a deadly chemical weapon on the world.
With the help of Steve and her fellow warriors, including her aunt, General Antiope (Robin Wright), and her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), Diana confronts the atrocities of war and ultimately comes face to face with Ares, the god of war, who she believes is responsible for the conflict. In a final battle, Diana proves herself as a true hero and succeeds in bringing peace to the world.
Wonder Woman was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $821 million worldwide and earning critical acclaim for its empowering portrayal of a female superhero. It also broke barriers as the first Hollywood superhero film to be directed by a woman. A sequel titled Wonder Woman 1984 was released in 2020.
