The movie Wonder follows the story of Auggie Pullman, an 11-year-old boy with a facial deformity who starts going to a mainstream elementary school after being homeschooled for years. Along with his struggles to fit in and be accepted by his classmates, the movie also explores the perspective of Auggie's family members and friends.
One of the side characters in the movie is Julian, a boy from Auggie's school who initially bullies him but later apologizes. It is revealed that Julian comes from a privileged background and is oblivious to the challenges of growing up in "the hood". During a conversation with Auggie's friend, Summer, Julian expresses surprise that kids from the inner city even celebrate Halloween. In response, Summer tells him about her friend, a girl who wants to dress up as Wonder Woman for Halloween even though she can't afford a costume.
Although the girl's story is not the main focus of the movie, it serves as a reminder of the different struggles that kids face, depending on their circumstances. The scene also highlights the resilience of kids from disadvantaged backgrounds who are still able to dream and find joy in simple things like trick-or-treating.
