In Woman in the Dark, Ralph Bellamy's character, John Bradley, is a former convict who has just been released from prison. He decides to retreat to a secluded cabin in the woods to avoid any temptations that might lead him back to his criminal ways. John's primary concern is his short fuse and tendency to lash out when provoked. He fears he won't be able to control his anger if he is exposed to the outside world and the triggers that come with it.
However, John's peaceful retreat is interrupted when a woman named Joan (Fay Wray) crashes her car near his cabin and seeks shelter from a mysterious pursuer. John reluctantly takes her in, but he soon finds himself in the middle of a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Joan is being pursued by a gang of criminals who believe she has incriminating evidence against them. Though he is best known for his supporting roles in classic films like "His Girl Friday" and "The Awful Truth," he proves himself more than capable of carrying a movie as a leading man. Fay Wray is also excellent as the frightened but resourceful Joan, making for a compelling duo onscreen.
