The movie Witness was released in 1985 and directed by Peter Weir. It starred Harrison Ford as John Book, the detective who goes undercover to protect the young Amish boy, Samuel, played by Lukas Haas. Kelly McGillis played Rachel, the boy's mother and love interest of Book.

After witnessing the murder, Samuel and his mother are reluctant to cooperate with Book, as he is an outsider and they have strict rules about interacting with the "English" world. However, as the case becomes more dangerous and the killers track Samuel down, the community begins to trust Book and work together to protect the boy.

Throughout the movie, Book struggles with his own personal demons and finds solace in the simple and peaceful way of life of the Amish. The love story between him and Rachel is complicated by their vastly different worlds and their obligations to their respective communities.

The film was praised for its suspenseful plot, stunning cinematography of the Pennsylvania countryside, and its portrayal of the Amish community as both unique and relatable. Witness was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won two, including Best Original Screenplay.
