The small-town sheriff is played by Larry the Cable Guy, who is known for his comedic roles. He witnesses the supposed kidnapping while on patrol in his town and jumps into action to rescue the woman, played by Ivana Miličević.
The FBI agents, played by Yaphet Kotto and Peter Stormare, try to convince Larry that they are on the side of the law and that the woman is in danger from other corrupt officials. Larry reluctantly agrees to help them, and they set off on a road trip to Chicago.
Along the way, Larry begins to suspect that something is not right and decides to investigate. He discovers that the FBI agents are actually corrupt and on the take, and that they plan to kill the woman instead of delivering her to the trial.
Larry must use his wits and brawn to protect the woman and take down the corrupt agents before it's too late. The movie also features appearances by Eric Roberts and Joe Mantegna.
Witless Protection received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising Larry's comedic performance and others criticizing the film's predictable plot and lack of originality. However, it was a commercial success, grossing over $9 million at the box office.
