Witchery

Horror  Italy

Witchery is a horror film released in 1988 and directed by Fabrizio Laurenti. The film begins with a prologue set in the 17th century, establishing the history of the witch who once ruled the island. It then jumps ahead to the present day, where we follow a young couple, Linda and Gary, who are traveling to the island to do a photo shoot for a brochure advertising a new hotel.

Once they arrive, they meet the eccentric and shady owner, Mr. Bellaver, as well as a group of guests, including an alcoholic actress and her nurse, a couple with a sick child, and a snooty writer. Strange things begin to happen almost immediately, as Linda starts having terrifying nightmares and Gary stumbles upon an old book of spells.

As the night progresses, more and more of the guests begin to experience supernatural phenomena, ranging from levitation and possession to spontaneous combustion. It soon becomes clear that the island is haunted by the witch's vengeful spirit, which is seeking revenge on those who have trespassed on its land.

The film features a mix of gore, nudity, and campy humor, with standout performances from David Hasselhoff as Gary and Linda Blair as the alcoholic actress. It has been criticized for its low production values and confusing plot, but has gained a cult following for its over-the-top scares and memorable moments.
