Wishmaster is a horror movie directed by Robert Kurtzman and released in 1997. The movie opens with the Djinn (played by Andrew Divoff) getting freed from his confinement when a gemstone containing his essence is discovered by Alexandra Amberson (played by Tammy Lauren). The Djinn tricks Alexandra into making three wishes, fulfilling each one with gruesome consequences.
As the Djinn carries out her wishes, he gains power and begins to manipulate her towards making the final wish that will open a portal and release the rest of his kind from their prison. Alexandra, with the help of a scholar named Wendy Derleth (played by Jenny O'Hara), tries to figure out a way to stop the Djinn and prevent the destruction of the world.
The Djinn's powers allow him to shape-shift, possess people, and manipulate reality. He offers to grant wishes to other characters in the movie, including a homeless man who wishes for wealth and a security guard who wishes for immortality. Their wishes come with horrific consequences as the Djinn twists their desires to advance his own agenda.
Towards the end of the movie, Alexandra realizes that the only way to stop the Djinn is to make a wish that undoes all the wishes she and others have made. She manages to do so, but not before the Djinn has opened the portal and released his kind.
The movie ends with the Djinn getting trapped in an antique statue, but the hint of a sequel is left with the ambiguous final shot of the statue's eyes glowing.
