As Pooh and his friends search for Christopher Robin, they come across a series of mishaps and comical misunderstandings. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles, including a broken bridge and a swarm of bees. Eeyore also loses his tail, which becomes a subplot throughout the film.
Meanwhile, Christopher Robin is safe at home, but his note declaring his absence has been misread by Pooh, leading to the mistaken belief that he has been kidnapped by the feared "Backson." The friends become increasingly panicked as they imagine all the terrible things the Backson might be doing to Christopher Robin.
Eventually, the gang realizes their mistake and they begin to backtrack on their adventure, retracing their steps and cleaning up the messes they made along the way. In the end, they find Eeyore's tail and hold a celebratory tail-replacement ceremony. Christopher Robin returns home, and Pooh finally gets his hands on some honey.
