The movie "Wing Commander" follows the story of Christopher Blair, played by Freddie Prinze Jr., and Todd "Maniac" Marshall, played by Matthew Lillard, as they arrive at the Tiger Claw, a military carrier ship. Blair, a former civilian pilot, is now a member of the Confederation Navy, and Marshall is his cocky and confident wingman.

The two pilots are soon informed of a Kilrathi fleet heading towards Earth, and are tasked with stopping them before they can reach the planet. Along with other pilots, played by actors such as Saffron Burrows and Tchéky Karyo, Blair and Marshall go on dangerous missions to try and save Earth from the invading aliens.

The movie features impressive visual effects that were considered groundbreaking at the time of its release in 1999. The film's creator, Chris Roberts, who also created the "Wing Commander" video game series, was heavily involved in the movie's production, ensuring that the story and characters stayed true to the game's original vision.

Despite the involvement of Roberts, the movie was not a critical or commercial success, with many critics citing a weak storyline and unconvincing performances from the cast. However, the film retains a cult following among fans of the video game series.
