Hannah (Abigail Breslin) and Amber (Alexa Vega) are sisters living in a rundown town in the Southern United States. Their mother is a drug addict who has abandoned them, and their father is a low-level boxer who is always in and out of trouble. The girls are raised by their grandmother, who is dying of cancer.
Uncle Frank (Sean Bean) is the head of a crime family in the area, and he is a brutal and violent man who will do anything to protect his operation. He is feared by everyone in the town, including Hannah and Amber.
When their father owes Uncle Frank a large sum of money, he offers up his daughters as collateral. Uncle Frank agrees, and the girls are forced to work in his drug lab, making methamphetamine. They are also used as runners and enforcers for the family.
Hannah is a smart and resourceful girl who dreams of escaping the town and making a better life for herself and her sister. She has taught herself how to use a gun and is determined to take down Uncle Frank and his operation.
As the tension between the girls and Uncle Frank escalates, the situation becomes more dangerous. Hannah and Amber must rely on their wits and each other to survive, but they know that a confrontation with Uncle Frank is inevitable.
In the end, Hannah and Amber are able to outsmart Uncle Frank and his henchmen, escaping the town and starting a new life for themselves. However, the memory of their time in the underworld will stay with them forever.
