In Who Done It?, Benny Hill plays the role of a hapless and bumbling private detective named Hugo Dill. The film opens with Dill working as a street sweeper, but he quits his job after winning a small sum of money in a lottery. With dreams of becoming a renowned detective, he hangs up his street-sweeper hat and opens up his own detective agency.
Dill's first big case involves investigating a secret conspiracy to murder British scientists. The story centers around a group of foreign spies who are attempting to obtain key information about a highly classified invention that could change the course of the war.
As Dill sets out to unravel the mystery, he quickly realizes that he is in over his head. He bumbles and stumbles his way through the investigation, but ultimately manages to save the day with the help of his loyal sidekick, played by David Kossoff.
The film features a number of classic Benny Hill gags and comedic set pieces, including a memorable scene in which Dill poses as a woman in order to sneak into a suspect's apartment. The film was one of several comedies that Hill made in the 1950s and 1960s, before achieving international fame as the creator and star of The Benny Hill Show.
