Max Baron, played by James Spader, is grieving the loss of his wife and struggling to find meaning in his life. He lives in St. Louis and works in advertising, where he meets Nora Baker, played by Susan Sarandon, when he stops at a diner on his way home from a business meeting. Despite their age and class differences, they are immediately drawn to each other and soon begin a passionate romance.

Nora is a divorced mother of two who works as a waitress in the diner. She is attracted to Max's sophistication and education, and he is fascinated by her raw sensuality and carefree spirit. But as Max gets more involved with Nora, he starts to worry about what his friends and business associates will think of his relationship with a woman from a lower social class.

As Max and Nora's relationship deepens, they begin to face more obstacles. Max's Jewish friends are not all accepting of Nora, and his boss at the advertising firm disapproves of their relationship. Nora also has her own issues to deal with, including a difficult ex-husband and a rebellious teenage daughter. Despite these challenges, Max and Nora remain committed to each other and struggle to find a way to make their relationship work.

White Palace is a poignant and touching love story that explores the complexities of class, age, and cultural differences. With strong performances from Spader and Sarandon and a compelling script, it is a must-see film for anyone who loves romantic dramas.
