White Lightning is a 1973 action-drama film directed by Joseph Sargent. It stars Burt Reynolds as Gator McKlusky, an ex-con who is released from prison after serving time for running moonshine. Once free, Gator is approached by federal agents who want him to help bring down a notorious moonshine racket in rural Arkansas.

Gator agrees to help the agents, but his motive is to take revenge on the men who killed his younger brother while he was in prison. Gator soon finds himself in the middle of a dangerous operation to bring down the moonshine ring that is run by the corrupt sheriff J.C. Connors, played by Ned Beatty.

As Gator infiltrates the ring, he must use all his cunning and skills to stay alive and gather evidence against the criminals. Along the way, Gator forms a relationship with a local girl, Lou, played by Jennifer Billingsley, who helps him in his mission.

The climax of the movie sees Gator face off against the moonshiners, with an epic car chase through the backwoods of Arkansas. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it led to a sequel, Gator, in 1976.
