Psychiatrist Ann Hecker, played by Annabella Sciorra, is struggling with the end of her relationship with her long-term boyfriend and the possibility of starting a new one. Meanwhile, she is responsible for listening to the sexual confessions of her patients, which is causing her own sexual desires to become more intense.
As Ann begins to feel overwhelmed by her patients' stories, she turns to a married friend from her research days, played by Alan Alda, for advice. He encourages her to explore her own sexual desires and helps her to prioritize her patients' needs.
However, when one of Ann's patients is murdered, her world is turned upside down. It turns out that her new boyfriend, played by Jamey Sheridan, was also seeing the murdered patient and becomes one of the prime suspects. Ann finds herself caught in the middle of a murder investigation and struggling to keep her personal and professional lives separate.
