While She Was Out is a 2008 thriller film directed by Susan Montford and starring Kim Basinger. The movie is based on the eponymous short story by Edward Bryant. It follows the story of Della Myers, a suburban housewife who is having a difficult time dealing with her abusive husband and disruptive children during the Christmas season.
Determined to escape the chaos, Della sets out to do some last-minute shopping. However, things take a dark turn when she has a run-in with four dangerous and violent thugs in a mall parking lot. In the ensuing chaos, Della accidentally takes the keys to their van, prompting the thugs to hunt her down in the nearby woods.
With no means of communication and no help in sight, Della must use all her wits and survival skills to outsmart her captors and stay alive. Armed only with her courage and resourcefulness, she engages in a cat-and-mouse game with her pursuers, all while trying to make her way back home to her family.
As the night wears on, Della's encounters with the thugs become increasingly violent and brutal. But despite the odds stacked against her, she refuses to be a victim and fights back with everything she's got. Will she be able to overcome her fears and survive the night?
