Where Eagles Dare is a 1968 war film directed by Brian G. Hutton and starring Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood, and Mary Ure. The movie is based on a novel of the same name by Alistair MacLean.
The story is set during World War II and revolves around the rescue mission of an American general named Carnaby, who has been captured by German forces and is being held in a heavily fortified castle called Schloss Adler. The Allied forces are desperate to rescue Carnaby as he has important information about the planned D-Day invasion.
To carry out the mission, a small team of British commandos, led by Major John Smith (Burton) and American Lieutenant Schaffer (Eastwood), are tasked with infiltrating the castle and retrieving the general. Along with them, they have a radio operator named Mary Ellison (Ure) and a group of soldiers to provide support.
The team enters the castle disguised as German soldiers and pretends to be delivering a prisoner. However, things quickly go awry, and they find themselves fighting for their lives against heavily armed German soldiers who are onto their plans. The team must make their way through the castle's labyrinthine tunnels, avoid the various traps set by the enemy, and fight off waves of German soldiers if they want to complete the mission successfully.
As they progress deeper into the castle's maze of corridors, the team's loyalty is tested, and the true nature of the mission is revealed. The twists and turns in the plot keep the audience guessing until the very end, making Where Eagles Dare a classic and thrilling war movie.
