When Brooklyn Met Seville

Comedy  Spain

When Brooklyn Met Seville is a coming-of-age drama directed by Joaquín Oristrell. The film revolves around Ana, a rebellious teenager who is dissatisfied with her life in Seville and her dysfunctional family. When her mother takes in an African-American boy named Chris as a temporary lodger to avoid eviction, Ana's life takes a dramatic turn.

Despite initial animosity between Ana and Chris, the two begin to connect over their shared love for music and dance. As they spend more time together, their friendship evolves into a romantic relationship that is met with disapproval from their families and the community.

Ana's conservative father, who runs a bar in the neighborhood, is outraged by the interracial relationship and forbids her from seeing Chris. Meanwhile, Chris faces discrimination and racism from some of Ana's friends and neighbors. Their relationship is further complicated by Chris' imminent departure back to Brooklyn, as he was only meant to stay with Ana's family temporarily.

As Ana navigates the challenges of first love and cultural differences, she also begins to question the sexist and racist beliefs she has been raised with. In the end, Ana and Chris must decide if their love is worth fighting for, despite the obstacles standing in their way.

When Brooklyn Met Seville is a heartfelt tale of love, culture clash, and self-discovery that explores themes of race, identity, and acceptance. The film features an all-Spanish cast, including Anna Castillo as Ana and Theo Alexander as Chris, and was released in 2018.
