When a Stranger Calls is a 2006 horror film directed by Simon West and starring Camilla Belle, who plays Jill Johnson. The film is a remake of the 1979 movie of the same name.
At the start of the film, we witness a deeply disturbing scene where a teenage girl is murdered by an intruder who breaks into her house. Several years later, Jill is hired to babysit for a wealthy couple who are attending a party. She is tasked with looking after their two young children in their vast, isolated mansion.
As the night progresses, Jill begins receiving phone calls from an unknown man who tells her that he is watching her every move. Terrified, she tries to ignore him, but he keeps calling and taunting her. The stranger's voice is chilling and menacing, and he makes it clear that he is going to do something terrible to her.
Jill tries to call for help, but the phone lines are dead. Fearing for her life, she takes the children and tries to escape from the house. However, she soon discovers that the stranger is already inside the house, and she must use all her wits to outsmart him and protect the children.
The movie is a tense and nail-biting thriller that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. Camilla Belle gives a great performance as the terrified babysitter, and the cinematography and sound design are particularly effective at creating a sense of claustrophobia and terror.
