In the small town of Endora, Iowa, Gilbert Grape (played by Johnny Depp) is a young man who is responsible for taking care of his mentally impaired brother Arnie (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and his severely obese mother Bonnie (played by Darlene Cates). Gilbert's life is consumed by the daily struggles of caring for his family and dealing with the judgment and ridicule of the townspeople.
