What Lies Beneath is a 2000 American supernatural horror film directed by Robert Zemeckis starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer. The film revolves around Claire Spencer (Michelle Pfeiffer) a housewife who suspects that her husband, Dr. Norman Spencer (Harrison Ford), is having an affair with an unknown woman. When strange happenings occur in their home, including ghostly visions and unexplained noises, Claire begins to think that their secluded lakeside home may be haunted by a ghost. As she investigates the source of the disturbances, she discovers that the truth may be far more sinister than she ever could have imagined.
Throughout the film, Claire is plagued by bizarre occurrences which she cannot explain, including a vision of a young woman who disappears and the sound of eerie music coming from nowhere. Claire becomes increasingly convinced that the house is haunted by the ghost of a murdered woman, especially after she discovers a photograph of a woman who resembles the apparition she's been seeing.
Meanwhile, Dr. Spencer becomes increasingly distant and secretive, dismissing Claire's concerns and insisting that she's just imagining things. But Claire perseveres, and eventually uncovers a dark secret about her husband's past that threatens to destroy their marriage and their lives.
As the supernatural events in the house become more disturbing and dangerous, Claire must race against time to uncover the truth about the ghostly presence haunting her home before it's too late. In a climactic finale, the truth is revealed, and Claire must fight for her life and her sanity to escape the terrifying consequences of what lies beneath.
