Joy McNally (played by Cameron Diaz) is a driven, successful New York City stockbroker who is dumped by her fiancé at their engagement party. Feeling hopeless and alone, she decides to join her friend on a spontaneous trip to Las Vegas, hoping to escape her problems for a while.
Meanwhile, Jack Fuller (played by Ashton Kutcher) is a carefree bachelor who has just been fired from his job and is looking to blow off some steam in Vegas. When Joy and Jack meet at a casino, they are instantly attracted to each other and decide to have a wild night out on the town.
However, their drunken antics result in them waking up the next morning with no memory of what happened - except for a marriage certificate and a huge jackpot-winning token from a slot machine. As they try to undo their mistake, they realize that they are both entitled to half of the winnings if they stay married for at least six months.
Joy and Jack reluctantly agree to try and make their fake marriage work, but their very different personalities and lifestyles clash constantly. Joy is focused on her career and has strict routines, while Jack just wants to have fun and live in the moment.
Despite the challenges, they slowly begin to bond over shared experiences and learned lessons, including a hilarious couples therapy session that forces them to face their issues head-on. Along the way, they also have to navigate the interference of their jealous friends and family members, who try to sabotage their marriage for their own gain.
In the end, Joy and Jack realize that they have developed genuine feelings for each other and decide to give their relationship a real chance. As they celebrate their newfound love and wealth, they also learn valuable lessons about trust, compromise, and the unpredictable nature of life.
