Mystery,Drama  United Kingdom

Wetherby is a 1985 British mystery film directed by David Hare and starring Vanessa Redgrave, Ian Holm, Judi Dench, and Tim McInnerny. The film tells the story of Jean Travers (Redgrave), a middle-aged woman living alone in the quiet English town of Wetherby. One evening, she hosts a dinner party for some of her friends, including John Morgan (Holm), a mysterious young man who has just moved to Wetherby.

After the party, John stays behind and reveals to Jean a tragic secret from his past. The next day, he is found dead in a nearby field, having apparently taken his own life. His death shocks the town and brings to the surface buried anxieties and unresolved issues within the lives of Jean and her friends.

As the investigation into John's death unfolds, it becomes clear that the young man's presence in Wetherby has had a profound effect on those around him. Jean, in particular, is haunted by John's memory and begins to reflect on her own past.

The film is a poignant exploration of grief, loneliness, and the darker aspects of human nature. It features outstanding performances from its cast, as well as a screenplay that is both subtle and deeply affecting.
