Wet Season follows the story of Ling, a middle-aged Chinese language teacher who is dealing with a failing marriage and a difficult student. As the monsoon season starts in Singapore, Ling finds herself drawn to a young male student, who she feels may be able to provide her with the emotional support she needs.
The film explores themes of loneliness, isolation and emotional vulnerability, with Ling struggling to find a sense of purpose and identity in her life. As the relationship between Ling and her student deepens, it becomes clear that both are searching for something from one another, but neither fully understands what that is.
Directed by Anthony Chen and starring Yeo Yann Yann, Wet Season is a beautifully shot exploration of the intricacies of human emotion and the search for connection in an increasingly fragmented world.
